Update 30%-ruling: salary norm lowered to EUR 50,000

In answer to Parliament State Secretary Weekers has announced adjustments to the proposed salary norm for the 30%-ruling.

Under this proposal the general salary norm will be adjusted to EUR 50,000 including the maximum 30%-reimbursement (was EUR 72,312), or EUR 35,000 excluding the 30%-reimbursement. For highly educated employees under the age of 30 a lower salary norm of EUR 38,007 including the maximum 30%-reimbursement, or EUR 26,605 excluding the 30%-reimbursement will become applicable. Finally, for scientists and researchers with educational or research institutions no salary norm will be applicable.

The above proposal is more in accordance with the salary norm as used for Highly Skilled Migrants and is for a large part in accordance with our recommendations as published in the 'Financieel Dagblad' in September.

In our view the now proposed salary norm will meet many of the complaints that were raised by several stakeholders after initial publication of salary norm.
